Plug and Play Café has been feeding startups since 2006. We have a world-class catering team on-site that makes delicious, fresh meals every day. The Plug and Play Café and Catering team provide the exceptional culinary creations that would delight the most discerning foodie. We are looking for a dynamic chef with menu ideas as innovative as the startups we feed.

The Executive Chef takes ownership for the overall success of the Plug and Play Café. This role is accountable for the café’s daily administrative, operational and culinary tasks, including sanitation and safety. We also need a chef that continues to motivate, train and develop our café employees to their peak potential.




Duties and Responsibilities

Overall Management
  • Hires, trains and supervises the daily conduct of café staff
  • Evaluate staff and actively work to develop managerial leadership and culinary skills
  • Conduct coaching sessions and disciplinary actions in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provides feedback and support to employees to further their development
  • Ensures all training, safety and sanitation standards are met and documented for all café employees

  • Food Programs
  • Write and create menus that demonstrate creativity, seasonality, healthy balance and variety
  • Ensure that high quality food items are creatively well prepared and presented in a cost effective manner.
  • Meet and exceed the expectations of the customer and client perceived value
  • Ensure that all products and ingredients that are used are purchased following Plug and Play Café standards

  • Financial Management
  • Responsible for making sure that labor and food budgetary goals are met
  • Responsible for placing food and vendor orders, sourcing the best local and seasonal ingredients, and following purchasing guidelines

  • Special Events/Marketing
  • Assist the Events Director by developing specialty menus and events per clients’ needs, budget and attendance guidelines
  • Work with Events Director to develop and implement sales programs to solicit new business



  • Qualifications

    Requirements
  • Min of 3 years kitchen supervisory experience or applicicable culinary experience in similar volume restaurant or food service establishment
  • Degree from a post secondary culinary arts training program
  • General hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices
  • Ability to operate web based ordering system, process customer requests, changes to orders, menu updates and event planning
  • Ability to read and write to facilitate the communication process. Ability to write professional and efficient emails to customers and vendors
  • Ability to solve problems professionaly, rapidly and fairly as well as maintain and teach good work ethic and developing a sense of teamwork and cooperation with the food service team
  • Comfortable with Excel, Google Docs, Salesforce CRM and other technology solutions Strong internal and external communicator with strong interpersonal skills
