Plug and Play Tech Center, a leading startup investor and accelerator based in Silicon Valley, is pleased to announce their latest accelerator program: Plug and Play Bitcoin. Plug and Play Tech Center will also be investing outside of their accelerator within the Bitcoin vertical.
Following Plug and Play’s Winter EXPO (with a focus on financial technology and virtual currencies) the new accelerator program will begin accepting startup applicants to enroll beginning January 2014.
Saeed Amidi, Founder and CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center: “I am very excited to venture into this new and disruptive technology. We will be making 10 investments in Bitcoin startups over the next year with our program launching after our December EXPO event.”
Scott Robinson, Plug and Play Bitcoin Lead, will head the program starting in Q1 of next year: “We’ve pulled together a great community of bitcoin users, enthusiasts, investors and entrepreneurs, so we feel as though we have a good understanding of the players in the space and the trends we’re witnessing from hardware to regulation to new disruptive payment solutions. Our hope is to continue building out an entire eco-system: from the bitcoin miners in our data center to the startups in our building considering adopting the bitcoin platform.”
Scott Robinson spoke at the first Asian Bitcoin Conference, Bitcoin Singapore, on Friday, November 15th.
On December 5th, Plug and Play will hold their quarterly pitch competition featuring a virtual currency panelist discussion with Vinny Lingham (Gyft.com), Chris Larsen (Ripple.com), J Cabou (Perkins Coie), David Johnston (BitAngels.co) and Adam B. Levine (Let’s Talk Bitcoin).
There’s been a lot of buzz about the accelerator in the press. Entrepreneur said, “The seven-year-old Plug and Play Tech Center is no stranger to startup investment; in the course of more than half a decade, it has accelerated 1,500 early-stage companies, by Amidi’s reckoning. It also hosts a weekly Bitcoin meetup that is the largest in Silicon Valley.”
It was also mentioned in the Wall Street Journal, which said, “In the latest sign that pricey compliance and uncertain regulations in the U.S. are pushing Bitcoin boosters to look abroad, Plug and Play Tech Center is launching an accelerator dedicated to the digital currency.”
