Plug and Play University offers a unique opportunity for startups to engage with our extensive network in venture capital, corporate development, entrepreneurship, and service partners. This program is open to all entrepreneurs, but is geared toward those new to Silicon Valley. Programs are held quarterly over a four day period to welcome the international and corporate startups joining our acceleration programs. Plug and Play University is intended to be an intensive immersion into Plug and Play and Silicon Valley consisting of speaker sessions, workshops, and networking events. This quarter Plug and Play University accepted 25 new startups, 19 of which are international companies while the remaining are from the Volkswagen and insurance accelerator programs.
The accepted companies have the opportunity to attend guest speaker lectures and participate in startup case study activities as well as interactive workshop sessions. Interactive workshop sessions include advice and tips for success from experts in areas such as marketing, taxes, accounting and website design. The startup case studies present relevant and useful insight into how a startup can succeed as well as learn from failure. The startups also receive mentorship and guidance on how to receive funding and impress venture capitalists. Bill Reichert from Garage Ventures will lead a VC workshop session about how VC’s chose to invest and what they specifically look for in startups. The program helps international companies integrate themselves into Silicon Valley with instruction on how to legally set up in the United States and address immigration issues they might face.
A highly beneficial addition to the startup university is a pitch polishing session, in which the companies are coached by Nathan Gold and learn to fine-tune their pitches and presentation skills. The startups will also attend a digital shopping showcase that focuses on the future of retail and e-commerce innovation. This session will include corporate judges from Target, Coca Cola, Anheuser Busch and Panasonic and is intended to show startups how to work with big corporations. The program concludes on Friday with an Executives in Residence Session where the companies get to watch established startups pitch and receive feedback from VC’s. Overall Plug and Play University allows companies to get an insider view of the entrepreneurial lifestyle that is unique to Silicon Valley.
The four day Plug and Play University program is exclusively intended for the accepted startup companies. However, all are welcome to attend the kickoff welcome reception this Tuesday, July 9th at Plug and Play HQ. Come join us at 5:00p.m. to meet the 25 startups and immerse yourself in Silicon Valley!
